GOLDEN JUBILEE
Our Golden Laddie 2021
Jimmy Hinnigan, Kelso Laddie 1971
Jimmy Hinnigan it could be said is one of our better known ex Laddies, having hardly ever missed a Yetholm ride and in recent years been the recipient of the most senior rider award on the Yetholm ride-out (if that is a polite way of saying "The auldest Rider)
Here is what Jimmy had to say on what would have been declaration night this year:
"After following Kelso Civic Week on horseback from 1963 I was elected Kelso Laddie in 1971. With my Right Hand Man Denis Polozek and Left Hand Man Ian (Wizz) Cleghorn, what a summer we had. The provost was James Stewart and Kelso Laddies Association chairman was Ex Laddie Arthur Hastie and the four lady bussers were Penny Pattison, Hazel Oliver, Irene Watt and Carol Ker, who all supported me so well during that great year.
I have fond memories of the other principals from that year including:
Drew Martin, Hawick Cornet; Peter Scott, Selkirk Standard Bearer;
Gib Todd, Peeples Cornet; Alan Hardie, Melrosian;
Ian Buckham, Braw Lad & Eileen Horsburgh, Braw Lass;
Robert (Perry) Mason, Jed Callant & Jock Murdoch, Herald
Colin Johnstone, Coldstreamer Ivor Jones, Lauder Cornet
Rino Di Rollo, Musselburgh Honest Lad
Jimmy went on to say:
"I want to congratulate you Steven on your 25th and also the people of Kelso for the support in 1971 and the years that followed. I hope things get better and we can enjoy our week in July in the not so distant future. All the best and keep safe." Jimmy.

On what would have been declaration night 2021 (April 16th) Steven had this to say;
"Where has the last 25 years gone, it seems like only yesterday I was standing in the Square on declaration night the proudest lad alive, albeit a bit nervous!! Many things have changed since then and we never expected current events to not allow a normal Civic Weeks to take place again, but with everyone's help and support we will be back even stronger than before. A massive congratulations must go to our Golden Jubilee Laddie, Jimmy, along with all the townsfolk of Kelso for supporting me throughout my very special year."
Stevey's R/H Man was Chris Gillie and L/H Man was Neil Cowe.
The Lady bussers were: Linsey Veitch, Naomi Esson, Gemma Fraser and Jenny Hall.

KLA thank Jimmy and Stevey for the photos and support over the years,
we also thank Hector Innes Photographers for the two header photos above.
We hope and pray that we will enjoy a better more full-on Civic Week next year when
the new Laddie and the Jubilee Laddies can enjoy their celebrations.
