Kelso Laddie 2016
Ian affectionately known as “Splodge” by his many friends and peers was tragically killed in a farming accident on Sunday 11th November, 2018. Ian’s first and foremost love was for his horses and from an early age spent as much time as possible in the pursuit of his Passion. Ian was a very competent Rider and took part in many Shows and Jumping events on his favourite horse “Rio” and always made himself available to help out anyone who required assistance. You never needed to ask “Splodge” twice for help. Ian’s ambition to be Kelso Laddie came to fruition on Friday 15th April, 2016 when he was elected as Kelso Laddie which proved to be a very popular choice with not only the Ex-Laddies, the public but also with all the other Border Principals, Chairmen, riders, followers and supporters on the Border circuit. “Weel Kent” and “Weel Liked” Ian revelled in all the Rideouts, Pageantry and Social events within the Border Common Ridings. His infectious “giggle” and straight face when relating a story or a send up of pals was well known, as was his wicked sense of humour. In a relatively short time Ian made endearing friendships and his popularity amongst his contemporaries was shown to great effect by the hundreds that turned out when he was laid to rest.
