Kelso Civic Week

Welcome to the website of the
"Kelso Laddies Association"

No CIVIC WEEK for 2021

We are sure it is not a surprise to you that due to Coronavirus the normal Civic Week in July has been cancelled.
Please see the official message from our chairman below.
CHAIRMANS MESSAGE

"Ex-Kelso Laddies Club" News..

Ex- Kelso Laddies Club Donations  - Thursday 17th Dec 2020.

Today Kelsae Laddie Mark Henderson and Ex-Laddies Club President Andrew Haig payed a socially distanced visit around the four Primary Schools in Kelso and the surrounding area to hand over donations on behalf of the Club.

The money raised will go towards much needed equipment inside and outside the Schools for our local children to enjoy.

The kids were in high spirits with Christmas around the corner and with a surprise visit from the Kelso Laddie it hopefully gave them a nice end to a difficult year for all involved at the Schools.

On behalf of The Kelso Laddie Association and the Ex-Laddies Club may we wish you all a safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Our 2020 Virtual Civic Week
has been and gone
(Here's a look back at what went on)

SATURDAY

We are seeing out Civic Week

We should have had the Yetholm Day Breakfast, Ride to Yetholm,
entertainment in the square, Fancy Dress Parade
and the closing ceremony with the presentation of trophies.
BUT INSTEAD
We have a Virtual Yetholm Day
Starting with the Breakfast

Yetholm Day Breakfast
Then we have memories of Yetholm Days
Keep in the mood for Yetholm with the latest 2020 version of
the "Yetholm Day" song
Civic Week Party on TD1 Radio TONIGHT
See info on news update column.

No Parade this year, but we did have a
Garden Fancy Dress Competition
This was well supported and full details and pictures are on the Parade Page.
Fancy Dress
No Presentation of Prizes, no closing speeches and no Greetin' Party
to round off the week, but we live in hope for 17th - 24th July 2021.
Stay Safe OOT - Safe IN.
Visit Kelso Competitions
The Best dressed Shop window was "Gifted" in Roxburgh Street

Visit Kelso
FRIDAY

This is in normal years quite a quiet day as we are recovering from a 4am end of
The Kelso Civic Week Grand Ball
And we are charging our batteries for an early start for Yetholm Day tomorrow
Check back here at 8.00pm tonight for the new video of Gary Cleghorn's song
"Yetholm Day"

First round of judging of the Garden Fancy Dress took place, here are some that are in the final to be judges by the Colour Bussers tomorrow.
THURSDAY

The Children's Fancy Dress Party and the Floors ride-out with horses and cycles will be a miss for hundreds of followers, but the biggest loss is the Grand Civic Week Ball
We also have the pictured of the Virtual Pet Show
WEDNESDAY

Three big events should have been taking place today:
Children's Sports
Installation of the Laddie
Laser Parade with Firework Display

During the Installation the Laddie would be entrusted with the Burgh Standard which would be bussed by the four Lady Bussers who this year would have been
Zoe McGregor & Rosie White from Broomlands Primary School
and Lucy Redpath & Braid Humphreys from Edenside Primary School.

Here's our Virtual Presentation
recognising our 25th and 50th year anniversary Laddies
introduced by Andrew Haig,
President of the Ex Kelso Laddies Club
TUESDAY

We should have had the Stichill, Hume & Ednam ride-out and the Darts final in the Legion, but like so many events we will have to look back at earlier photos.
There are loads of these photos on our Facebook pages

MONDAY

We should have seen the opening of the Art exhibition, also the Whipmans ride-out visiting Sprouston and the equestrian events at Friershaugh.
The Children's pet show is on, but by photo only click the button below as there is a change to this event in regards entry and closing date.
Children's Pet Show
SUNDAY

we would have had:
10k Run
Family Day
Kirkin' of the Laddie
Baby Show
However, we did have a private Laying of the Wreath ceremony which you can see below
after an introduction from our chairman Tom Weatherston.

Saturday, We would have had:
Gents Open Golf
5 a side football
Tennis Challenge
Presentation to Kelso Hospital.
We are very pleased to let you know that due to the generosity of our Patrons the KLA have made a donation of £2030 (this was updated at the end of July with more money coming in) to the Friends of Kelso Hospital.   THANK YOU ALL.
Thank you for visiting our site, it is the intention of the site to keep you up to date with the work and progress of the Kelso Laddies Association in planning and the  running of many events in the town, but primarily  "Kelso Civic Week" during the 3rd week of July each year.      For the history of Civic Week CLICK HERE.
Picture
Each year a young man from the town is selected by the Ex Kelso Laddies to lead the celebrations and activities during Civic Week and also represent the town at all the other border festivals through the summer.
There is a full programme of events as you can see from pages within this site, why not browse through them and see what is on offer.
The 2020 programme of events has been severely curtailed due to Covid-19, but we have left the pages available so visitors can understand what goes on during a normal year and hopefully will all happen again in 2021.

About Kelso
Visitors find Kelso welcoming market town, nestling in the heart of the Scottish Borders, it offers so much to see and do in both the town and stunning surrounding countryside. Located in easy travelling distance of Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle, it’s easy to see why Kelso is Bordering on Brilliant.
The town of Kelso came into being as a direct result of the creation of Kelso Abbey in 1128.  (Kelso's name stems from the fact that the earliest settlement stood on a chalky outcrop, and the town was known as Calkou)   Why not learn more about Kelso by visiting the Visit Kelso Website.

news updates

As 2021 starts in perhaps a poorer position regarding Coronavirus than when 2020 ended it will be no surprise that we  see the list of festivals being canceled growing.
Most will be looking at hosting virtual weeks and some isolated events.   Please check back to see what Kelso will line up for you to get involved with
